Any ‘90s punk fan will surely remember coveting a copy of Go Ahead Punk…Make My Day – a classic CD sampler from Nitro Records. Originally released in 1996, the album delivered early cuts from some of the biggest names in West Coast punk. Available for the first time on vinyl, this reissue features 10 high-energy tracks from AFI, Guttermouth, Jughead’s Revenge, The Vandals, and The Offspring – including the latter band’s cover of “Hey Joe,” a long sought-after fan favorite which was previously exclusive to this compilation. Song Confessional is a songwriting project started by Austin musicians Walker Lukens, Zac Catanzaro and Jim Eno (Spoon) that collects anonymous stories to share with songwriters who write and record original songs inspired by them.

Originally conceived as a festival activation, Song Confessional has traveled all over the country recording anonymous stories at SXSW, Luck Reunion, Newport Folk Fest, Trans Pecos, Artsplosure, and has produced songs for Houndmouth, !!!, Kat Edmonson, David Ramirez and Wild Child whose song "Going In" has over 8.3M plays on Spotify in the last year.

In addition to releasing the songs digitally, the project features some of the songs on its Podcast, Song Confessional, where you hear the anonymous story, the song it inspired, and an interview with the songwriters who wrote it. Distributed by NPR-affiliate station KUTX, the podcast has already built a decent following with 450k monthly listeners on Spotify.

Partnering with the Bunkhouse Hotel group, Song Confessional has installed a permanent 24-hr confessional booth at Hotel Magdalena. Anyone can go record themselves telling their story for a chance to be part of the Song Confessional Project.

Pressed for Record Store Day 2022 is a limited edition vinyl compilation featuring some of the standout songs already released from the project. It also features an unreleased new single from Houston-bred rapper Fat Tony, inspired by a confession given in the booth at Hotel Magdalena.

In 1992, Victoria Williams was a talented singer-songwriter with a big problem: diagnosed with multiple sclerosis as she started gaining widespread exposure, she had no health insurance to cover her treatment costs. Within a year, an army of fans and friends, including Pearl Jam, Soul Asylum, Lou Reed, The Jayhawks and Giant Sand, recorded favorites from her songbook for Sweet Relief; that same year, the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund was established to offer funds for any musician in need of care. A touchstone LP from the beginning of Reggae's post-Bob Marley era, Wailing Souls’ Fire House Rock was released by Greensleeves in 1981, to enduring acclaim. The title track became Wailing Souls’ most popular, anthemic song. It featured production by Henry Junjo Lawes, backing by the Roots Radics, and mixes by Scientist.

For the Record Store Day 2022 edition, the original mixes were transferred from reel-to-reel to a pristine 24-bit/96k digital master. These are paired in a deluxe gatefold sleeve with a bonus 12-inch single disc of alternate, extended mixes originally released through VP’s Jah Guidance imprint.

Larry Mullins (aka Toby Dammit) and Mike Watt are back with their annual tribute to The Stooges, this time with "Fun House". (Mullins and Watt previously played together in the most recent iteration of The Stooges.) This 7” vinyl release features their unique take on the classic tune, divided into two parts and available exclusively for RSD 2022, and is limited to 1,000 copies worldwide. Half of the pressing comes on color vinyl, with the other half on standard black vinyl. The two editions will be randomly mixed and shipped, so you’re in for a surprise.

Cruel Country–Wilco’s universally-acclaimed 12th studio album will be available for the first time on vinyl and in a standard retail CD format via dBpm Records on January 20th. The double-disc packages are comprised of 21 Country Music inspired tracks, recorded at the band’s Chicago studio–The Loft.

Originally released in May 2022 (digital only) and in a limited “pre-release” CD edition for the June RSD drop, lead tracks “Falling Apart (Right Now)” and “Tired Of Taking It Out On You” have already become staples on non-commercial, public and AAA radio. Cruel Country songs and graphics have been featured throughout the band’s June European tour and August/September/October North American tour.

A new music video for “A Lifetime To Find” will be released in conjunction with the pre-order announcement.

Bandleader Jeff Tweedy has commented a length on the concept and recording process of Cruel Country in numerous podcasts, online interviews and print articles:

“There have been elements of Country Music in everything we’ve ever done. We’ve never been particularly comfortable with accepting that definition, the idea that I was making Country Music. But now, having been around the block a few times, we’re finding it exhilarating to free ourselves within the form, and embrace the simple limitation of calling the music we’re making Country.”

Curated by none other than record store owner Paul Epstein, from Twist & Shout, and featuring the best of World Party, including several rare versions of tracks, none of which have ever been on vinyl.

This record itself was pressed by famed Japanese pressing plant Toyokasei in Tokyo.

Eldee Young and Redd Holt were former members of the Ramsey Lewis Trio. In 1966 they started up the Young-Holt Unlimited, establishing themselves as one of the best-known instrumental groups mixing jazz and R&B into songs that captured the essence of the late '60s and early ‘70s. The group are best known for their 1968 Top 10 hit "Soulful Strut" and recorded nine albums over their career. This 1973 album captures many the soul hits of the moments. This nine-track set is a crate digger and DJ's delight, with classic period packaging capturing the Blaxploitation film sounds and style of the time.
